Job summary

Family Service & Children’s Aid is seeking School Based Therapists to support Townsend Elementary. The role involves individual and group therapy for students, collaboration with families, and school staff development to promote positive mental health.

The agency covers CAD for trauma-informed care, offers supervision, and supports ongoing training through state conferences; a flexible schedule with a strong team approach is emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related profession, with State of Michigan licensure.
  • Experience as therapist working with children, teens, and/or adults. Experience in trauma, mental health and substance use, preferred.
  • Training in DBT, TF-CBT, Bounce Back, and/or CBITS or willing to obtain training in these evidence-based models (agency covers costs and provides supervision)
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide behavioral health services to youth in an elementary school; individual and group therapy.
  • Work with parents to help their student improve mental health.
  • Engage in school activities focused on positive mental health and wellness.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for school staff.
  • Provide interventions aligned with multitier system and PBIS in the school.
  • Collaborate with Principals, Social Workers, Behavioral Interventionist, and paraprofessionals with clinical support from FSCA.
  • Support a State Funded program at Townsend Elementary and participate in state conferences.

As a School Based Therapist at Family Service & Children’s Aid, you will provide behavioral health services that help youth in a local elementary school to improve their overall well-being. Provide individual and group therapy. Work with parents to assist their student in improving their mental health. Engage in activities within the school that are geared towards positive mental health and wellness. Provide professional development opportunities for the school staff. Provide interventions that align with the multitier system and support Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports in the school. Work as a team with other school staff such as Principals, Social Workers, Behavioral Interventionist, and paraprofessionals but still also have the clinical support form FSCA (Best of Both Worlds!). You would be helping to maintain an established State Funded program in Townsend Elementary, which means access to State Sponsored Conferences with other school-based professionals.
