Responsibilities

  • Guide staff in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified students with speech and language and hearing disorders.
  • Serve as a resource to staff members.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders.
  • Develop and implement appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet needs of children with identified speech, language and hearing disabilities.
  • Provide therapy within the classroom setting or in a pullout model as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy suggestions for individual students’ daily activities.
  • Provide information and support to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Provide in service education and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech, language and hearing as needed.
  • Maintain thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech/language services.
  • Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provide screening to identify speech/language disabled students at regular intervals including kindergarten screening.
