Job summary

Clear Creek Amana School seeks a Sign Language Interpreter to support deaf or hard-of-hearing students by providing classroom interpretation and facilitating communication with teachers and staff.

The role requires Iowa licensure (or conditional licensure) and a collaborative approach within the education team. Hours run 7:30-11:00 AM for 10 months, with reasonable accommodations as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Health through the Iowa Board of Sign Language Interpreters and Transliterators, or willing to obtain conditional licensure with base-level sign language proficiency.
• Experience with children is preferred but not required.
• Post-secondary coursework in educational field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation for classroom instruction, social interactions, and school activities.
• Plan with teacher to prepare for interpreting.
• Assist in IEP meetings and monitor student communication strategies.
