Job summary

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant who, under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist, performs structured assessments, treatments, and documentation in a school setting.

Responsibilities include collaborating with school personnel, developing treatment plans, ensuring compliance with ethical standards, documenting progress, and supporting students to participate actively in learning.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards.
• Skilled in professional competency as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, as defined by AOTA.
• Skilled in communication, both verbal and written.
• Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Adhere to the Occupational Therapy code of ethics and comply with service standards.
• Coordinate priorities and schedules for occupational therapy services with school personnel.
• Assist the registered occupational therapist in developing treatment plans and implementation techniques.
• Implement therapeutic interventions as developed with the registered occupational therapist.
• Monitor student response to intervention and modify as indicated.
• Document observations of student performance and report to the registered occupational therapist.
• Collaborate with therapists on architectural barriers and classroom safety.
• Assist in formulation and modification of educational programs.
• Participate in professional development workshops and continuing education opportunities.

Education

Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program

NBCOT certification and NC licensure requirements
