Job summary

Lees Summit R-7 School District is seeking an Mental Health Therapist (Hourly Substitute) for the 2026-27 school year. The role focuses on providing consultation, classroom support and training to school personnel, with responsibilities across general education and special education services.

Reports to the Director of Student Support and collaborates with families to connect resources, develop progress plans, and document outcomes in accordance with district policies.

Qualifications

• Skill-based competencies include effective listening, counseling techniques and behavior management.
• Knowledge-based competencies include DSM-V diagnoses, crisis intervention and treatment modalities.
• Ability-based competencies include communication with diverse groups, confidentiality, decision making and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Confers with teachers, parents and community personnel to evaluate progress and implement objectives.
• Identifies at-risk students to provide support and referrals.
• Develops and implements annual IEP counseling goals for students with disabilities.
• Develops plans for counseling and indirect support (IEP, RTI, Behavioral Intervention Plan, etc.).
• Communicates with parents to partner and keep them informed of progress.
• Coordinates with outside services and agencies for referrals and resources.
• Makes home visits to assess student needs and progress.
• Maintains student records and documentation for future reference.
• Participates in meetings and trainings to gather and share information.
• Prepares written materials (IEPs, reports, treatment plans) for evaluation.
