Job summary

Barber National Institute seeks an Assistant Behavior Specialist to support students at the Elizabeth Lee Black School. You will provide direct behavioral support, help implement behavior plans, respond to crises, and create a safe, therapeutic learning environment.

The role collaborates with Behavior Specialists, teachers, and staff to ensure individualized care and accurate data collection for planning. ABA knowledge and crisis response are key assets.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• ABA experience in educational settings preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals with autism or developmental disabilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and communication technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct behavioral support to students in classrooms.
• Respond to behavioral crises and assist with de-escalation.
• Implement behavior intervention plans as designed by Behavior Specialists.
• Assist with behavioral assessments and preference assessments.
• Collect and document behavioral data to support ongoing planning.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to promote positive outcomes.
• Model effective behavioral support techniques for staff.
• Develop and refine individualized behavior support programs.
• Monitor student behavior and communicate changes to the Behavior Specialist.
• Support student transitions and transportation needs as assigned.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, therapeutic learning environment.
• Participate in professional development to strengthen ABA knowledge.
