Qualifications

• Must be fluent in American Sign Language.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and problem solving skills.
• Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet.
• Ability to keep information confidential.

Responsibilities

• Interpret all content and special subject areas for deaf or hard of hearing students as deemed necessary by students’ IEP.
• Provide related assistance to teachers when appropriate.
• Interpret school related activities outside the classroom and school day.
• Interpret interactions of deaf students with staff and students.
• Serve as a language role model, encourage self-advocacy and independence for deaf students.
• Prepare for all interpreting assignments to ensure accuracy of material presented.
• Serve as a resource for staff regarding the role of interpreters.
• Promote cultural understanding of the hearing impaired.
• Attend required meetings.
• Prepare reports as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
