Community YMCA is hiring for a School Age team member to support our kindergarten program, ensuring safety and engaging children with developmentally appropriate activities.

Responsibilities include leading games, assisting with bus transitions, and collaborating with teachers while maintaining strong family communication.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree with 30 credits in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• 2 years (2500 hours) documented experience working with children.
• CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid (or ability to obtain within 15 days).
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Commitment to growth and working with diverse populations.

• Provide safe, healthy, and well-supervised classroom environments.
• Lead and assist with age-appropriate games and activities.
• Collaborate with Assistant Teachers and attend required trainings.
• Build strong relationships with families and communicate children’s progress.
• Follow supervision, safety, and mandated reporter policies.

Job description

The Springfield YMCA is seeking creative and versatile staff to join our School Age team working directly with our kindergarten program. The ideal candidate excels working with a team, creating a safe environment, and has knowledge of child development as well as DHS requirements.

Available shifts and essential functions are listed below:

7:00am-9:30am: Support the program, lead games and activities, then escort children by bus to their half day kindergarten program and return to the Springfield YMCA on the bus then assist the teachers on site at the YMCA.

11:00am-1:00pm: Supporting classrooms on site at the YMCA as well as assist with supervision for mid-day bus runs.

2:30pm-4:30pm: Lead and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate games and activities as children learn best through play and movement.

Additional Responsibilities

• Use positive guidance strategies aligned with YMCA core values
• Build strong relationships with families and communicate children’s progress
• Collaborate with Assistant Teachers and attend required meetings and trainings
• Follow all supervision, safety, and mandated reporter policies
