Job summary

YMCA of Delaware is seeking a part-time School Age Site Intern at Brandywine YMCA Family Location in Wilmington, DE. You will supervise groups of children, support daily activities, and help ensure safety and developmentally appropriate practices.

The role requires being at least 16, completing licensing prerequisites, and engaging with families and staff. Opportunities include employer-funded retirement, workshops, career advancement and staff discounts.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old and meet licensing requirements.
• Proficient active listening and strong communication with children and parents.
• Ability to manage a classroom and support developmentally appropriate activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the children, group, and activities while ensuring safe, developmentally appropriate practices.
• Provide daily care for children including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs.
• Encourage, engage, and support children in all classroom activities including instructional times and transitions.
• Assist in planning and actively participate in daily age-appropriate activities to ensure learning opportunities.
• Observe children and document progress and development.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers, branch administration, and parents to foster collaboration and participation.
• Ensure the facility and equipment are clean, maintained, and safe daily.
• Complete and maintain required program documentation (attendance, meal counts, parent communication).
• Attend family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development trainings.
