The Part-time afterschool teacher supports the supervision, safety, and enrichment of school-age children during after school program hours. The teacher plans and facilitates engaging activities that support children’s academics, social emotional, and physical development while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. The role includes homework support, structured enrichment activities and positive behavior guidance.

- Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe and supportive environment
- Maintain appropriate teacher to child rations in accordance with licensing and program regulations
- Conduct regular headcounts and monitor transitions between activities
- Follow all health, safety and emergency procedures
- Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Literacy and more
- Facilitate structured play with outdoor activities and group games
- Provide homework assistance and encourage positive study habits
- Support children’s creativity, problem solving and teamwork
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children
- Model positive communication and conflict resolution strategies
- Support children in developing social skills and self-regulation
- Assist with classroom set up, materials, prep and clean-up
- Maintain an organized and safe learning space
- Communicate respectfully with all program staff and families
- Support children in developing social skills and self-regulation

- Encourage family participation in classroom and program activities
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, Face Coordinators and specialists
- Participate in reflective supervision, 21 hours of professional development and annual required training
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all agency policies, licensing regulations
- Minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) / Child Development (CD) units.
- At least six months to a year of experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility, afterschool program, recreation or youth development programs.
- Eligible for a Permit (or eligible to obtain one) through Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- Current Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification
- Ability to pass background checks, TB tests, and meet immunization requirements
- Flexibility in schedule to support the needs of the program through the school calendar
- Reach a child 25 feet away within 10 seconds or less
- Hear a child call for help from at least 50 feet away
- Comprehend and react to dangerous situations involving children without hesitation
- Crouch/bend to a child’s height and maintain eye contact
- Reach children on the highest piece of play equipment
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Engage in floor/sitting at ground level play with children for extended periods of time
- Exposure to a childcare classroom indoor/outdoor setting, cleaning, disinfectant supplies and noise levels that are consistent with working with young children
- Prior to first day of employment, must have fingerprint clearance and maintain clearance.
- Verification to legally work in the US and updated as required.
