Job summary

Avera Gynecologic Oncology Sioux Falls seeks a Scheduling Specialist to coordinate appointments and care across clinics. The role supports timely access to essential services and works with multiple teams to manage schedules for tests, procedures, labs, and telemedicine.

You will collaborate with physicians, staff and families, ensuring accurate documentation and seamless patient experiences in a compassionate environment. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm, no weekends.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Associate's in medical secretarial field.
  • 1-3 years experience as a scheduler, biller, or in a medical office.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules appointments for new and existing patients across clinics.
  • Coordinates care scheduling for labs, infusion, imaging, procedures, surgeries and telemedicine.
  • Facilitates referrals and collaborates with Avera’s network to support continuity of care.
  • Guides patients through treatment plans and ensures a smooth care experience.

This role is essential in ensuring seamless, compassionate care across multiple clinics and care teams.Responsibilities include:Scheduling appointments for new and existing patients, ensuring timely access to essential care.Coordinating comprehensive care scheduling including labs, infusion, imaging, procedures, surgeries, and telemedicine appointments.Facilitating referrals and collaborate with Avera’s network, including regional and rural facilities, to support continuity of care.This position plays a key role in guiding patient through complex treatment plans, providing peace of mind and a smooth care experience. Work where you matter.A Brief OverviewPerforms diverse duties as they relate to the department to include, but not limited to completing prior and pre-authorizations for patients insurance companies, working appeals for insurance coverage, verifying benefits, making referrals and scheduling pre-operative physical, and reviewing surgery information with patients. Responsible for scheduling, maintaining, and disseminating an accurate surgery schedule, including acquisition, retention, and organization of documentation, and will provide clerical services for the department as indicated.What you will doObtains information (including physician orders to schedule tests/procedures only) from physician offices for scheduling tests, procedures and admissions in an accurate, timely and sequential manner.Facilitates in coordinating a plan of care for patients with various departments throughout the hospital and clinics including working with equipment vendors for surgical equipment needs.Coordinates care between facilities for utilization of telemedicine to ensure continuity of care if applicable.Communication of information to physicians, staff, families, etc., when directed and to do so in an appropriate and professional manner.Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by Performance Improvement, Joint Commission accreditation, CARF certification, OSHA guidelines, or as my be required by law.Coordinates scheduling of specialized equipment based on procedures.Maintains physician calendar, procedure schedule and all coordinating orders for procedures.Essential QualificationsThe individual must be able to work the hours specified.
