Job summary

Baxter Health is seeking a Scheduler to work with affiliated and non-affiliated physician offices and hospital departments to schedule patients for outpatient procedures and testing. The role involves handling electronic, faxed, and phone orders and ensuring seamless communication with ordering providers.

You will act as a liaison across departments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in scheduling, while monitoring medical necessity and potential patient liability.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 12 to 18 months related healthcare and/or customer service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding basics (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patients for outpatient procedures and testing based on electronic, faxed, or phone orders.
  • Coordinate with physician offices and hospital departments to ensure timely and accurate scheduling.
  • Notify ordering providers if a test is deemed not medically necessary and could affect patient liability.
  • Serve as a liaison to maintain care continuity across departments.

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Patient Access/Central Scheduling Manager, the Scheduler is responsible and accountable for working hand in hand with both affiliated and non-affiliated physician’s offices as well as other hospital departments to schedule patients for all types of outpatient procedures/testing. The scheduling of appointments may occur as the result of all of the following: electronic orders received, faxed orders received and phone call orders received. For any appointment scheduled by phone call, the scheduler is responsible for notifying the ordering provider when the ordered test fails medical necessity and may result in patient financial liability. The scheduler functions as a liaison between physician’s offices and other departments of the hospital to ensure excellence in care is maintained throughout the continuum of care.

Required to work with the Director/Manager regularly to carryout, initiate and/or implement best practices for the Baxter Health Patient Access Department.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma or GED


Experience: 12 to 18 months related healthcare and/or customer service.


Certifications: N/A


Other: Preferred applicant will have a working knowledge of medical terminology, ICD 10, CPT and HCPCS coding basics. Adaptability to multiple systems is essential.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a position in a hospital setting which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.


Flexible work schedule, 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts.
