Job description

Townsen Memorial Imaging is looking for a Scheduler to join our facility in Katy, TX!

Job Overview: The Scheduler is responsible for scheduling patient appointments and verifying insurance coverage with carriers. The Scheduler will ensure positive and proactive communications with prospective and existing patients via inbound/outbound calls and/or email.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Verify insurance eligibility for upcoming appointments by utilizing online websites or by contacting the carriers directly.
  2. Determine patient co-payments and calculate co-insurance and deductibles.
  3. Enter insurance information (co-payments, deductibles, etc.) accurately into patient records.
  4. Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to urgency.
  5. Generate, verify, and oversee the complete authorization/referral process.
  6. Initiate and assist with appeals for denied authorizations.
  7. Communicate with all appropriate parties regarding patient and procedure.
  8. Follow-up and ensure all documentation is obtained.
  9. Verify if all authorizations have been obtained prior to scheduling procedures.
  10. Schedule and/or reschedule patient follow-ups and procedures.
  11. Inform and provide patients with necessary information and instructions prior to procedure date.
  12. Send prescriptions to pharmacy via fax or e-mail.
  13. Move patients through appointments as scheduled.
  14. Answer telephone and deal with inquiries.
  15. Update patients’ information into database.
  16. Submit information to verification department for pre-authorization.
  17. Ensure completeness and accuracy of patients’ forms.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of in and out of network insurances, insurance verification, patient responsibility, and process for prior authorization.
  2. Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT codes and procedures.
  3. Ability to review and understand patient medical documentation.
  4. Ability to independently identify and understand medical necessity requirements.
  5. Task-oriented and organizational skills; ability to complete tasks timely.
  6. Detail-oriented focus; being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  7. Ability to work independently and as a team.
  8. Ability to adapt with flexibility.
  9. Effective communication skills (written/verbal).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. One (1) year of experience in a medical facility.
  3. One (1) year of insurance verification experience.
  4. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
