Job summary

OU Health's University of Oklahoma Medical Center Interventional Radiology is seeking a full-time Surgery Scheduler to manage the surgical calendar, QA processes, and department reporting. The role involves coordinating dates, priorities, and durations while notifying stakeholders to keep OR schedules efficient.

Minimum qualifications include 1 year of surgery scheduling experience and a High School Diploma or GED. Strong communication, multitasking, and EMR system skills are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Coordinates the scheduling of all surgeries to ensure efficient use of surgery suites and staff.
• Maintains a paper 7-day surgery schedule to safeguard against computer downtime.
• Notifies all necessary parties when changes must take place.
• Prints and distributes surgery schedules daily as needed.
• Extensive customer relations responsibilities in coordinating schedules with physicians.
• Uses EMR system to compile data and reports and creates daily department efficiency reports.
• Checks physician orders and attaches orders to patient records.
• Communicates professionally with physicians and office staff to ensure documentation is in place.
• Works with nursing and ancillary departments to maintain teamwork.
• Reports patient safety issues using occurrence reporting systems.
• Assists in resolving patient concerns.
• Adheres to Code of Conduct and Mission and Values statements.

Job description

Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Interventional Radiology

Shift: Full-Time 40hrs/wk., 8:30am-5pm

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for maintaining the schedule for all surgeries, quality assurance processes, and compiling department statistical reports.

Essential Responsibilities

• Coordinates the scheduling of all surgeries, taking into consideration such information as the desired date, priority of surgery, length of surgery, etc., to ensure the efficient use of surgery suites and staff.

• Maintains a paper 7-day surgery schedule to safe guard against computer down time.

• Notifies all necessary parties when changes must take place.

• Prints and distributes surgery schedules daily as needed.

• Extensive customer relations' responsibility in coordinating schedules with physicians.

• Utilizes Patient Electronic Medical Record system to compile data and reports as needed. Quality Assurance statistics and creates daily reports related to efficiency of Surgical Department.

• Checks for physician orders and attaches order to patient medical record to ensure that patients are receiving appropriate care.

• Communicates professionally with physicians and physician office staff to ensure appropriate documentation is in place.

• Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments in effort to maintain a teamwork approach.

• Demonstrates knowledge of occurrence reporting systems and utilizes systems to report potential patient safety issues.

• Assists in resolving patient concerns.

• Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Values Statement.
