Job description

Overview

As an AmeriCorps program participant with Southwest Conservation Corps, your office is the great outdoors! Each crew consists of 6 members and 2 leaders. Crews serve and camp for 8 days at a time in front country locations with access to their vehicle and trailer, in town serving alongside county or municipal partners, or in backcountry locations that require hiking in all supplies with backpacks. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation, weeding, herbicide treatment, fencing, facility maintenance, and local environmental service projects. Crews may also complete technical and/or specialized projects depending on project partner needs, including disaster relief if the opportunity arises. The Conservation Crew Leader Development Program (CLDP) position is an opportunity to make a difference in young people's lives while completing conservation projects. CLDPs will be mentors, educators, and facilitators for young adults, working to promote the health and resiliency of our land, air, and water.

Member Duties

The Conservation Crew Leader Development Program (CLDP) is responsible for facilitating a positive Crew Member experience. This position will serve alongside a Staff Crew Leader who is responsible for the direct supervision of the crew. The CLDP performs the same fieldwork as crew members, including trail construction and maintenance, habitat restoration, invasive species removal, and disaster response. The CLDP models safe tool use, strong work ethic, and teamwork while helping communicate project goals and daily plans. The CLDP shares best practices, supports training activities, and assists with crew organization, logistics, and partner communication. They help foster collaboration, safety, and morale within the crew while participating in group camping responsibilities, learning, and professional development.
