POET Grain in Big Stone, SD is seeking a Scale Technician to operate grain scales and related computer systems, ensuring quality of inbound and outbound products. The role includes contract administration and grain settlement tasks within the local grain team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–5 years admin, accounting, or agriculture customer service experience preferred.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new programs.

Responsibilities

• Operate truck scales and computer systems.

As a Scale Technician, core duties are operating the grain scale(s) and the computer systems to ensure the quality of inbound and outbound products. The Scale Technician is also responsible for clerical duties related to the grain origination/merchandising operations within the local grain team, including contract administration, ticket application, and grain settlement processing.This is an on-site role located in Big Stone, SD.Responsibilities include:Operate truck scales and computer systemsAccurately grade all quality factors of inbound grains.Apply scale tickets to contracts.Work within the grain accounting system to set up new accounts.Grain contract administration: filing contracts, mailing contracts (inbound & outbound mail), managing contract signatures, and maintaining audit-ready contract files.Provide accounting support to Grain Merchandisers.Perform housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean work area inside and outside of the scale house area.Telephone reception as needed.Always promote excellent customer service with external customers/grain haulers.Champion POET in the community.Since we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skill may be put to a lot of other uses!QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLSHigh school diploma or equivalent required.One (1) to five (5) years of administrative assistant or accounting experience or other agriculture customer service experience preferred, with a demonstrated background of success.Consistently demonstrate a high level of customer service with a positive, friendly attitude.Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.Excellent organization and time management skills with a sense of urgency that drives results.Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability of learning new programs.The ability to show up to work on time and work beyond regular business hours as needed.Bonus Points:Grain accounting experienceThorough knowledge of grain receiving/grading proceduresA SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVEHigh level of personal integrity, maintaining confidentiality on all business-related mattersInterpersonal skills – ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels within/outside the organizationDemonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skillsAbility to exercise sound business judgment and discretion.Ability to think objectivelyAbility to work individually and in a team environmentWORK ENVIRONMENTThis position operates in an office environment.Team members must adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.This role has some physical requirements that our team members will need to be able to perform, such as:Standing approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.occasionally lifting fifty (50) pounds or less.GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIESAt POET, we encourage internal development and growth by allowing team members to carve their own path to success.
