Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a Scale Operator to manage truck and non-ferrous scales at our recycling facility. You will verify material descriptions, weights, and documentation, and handle cashier transactions with accuracy while delivering excellent customer service.

This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work in both office and outdoor environments, and effective communication with yard staff and customers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience with cash handling and customer service is desirable.
• Ability to work in both office and outdoor environments with attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to learn and identify recyclable materials and grades.

Responsibilities

• Operate truck scales and non-ferrous scales safely and efficiently.
• Inspect, classify, and purchase recyclable materials with accurate weights and grades.
• Enter transactions into the inventory system and verify scale tickets.
• Process cash, credit card, and other payments; issue receipts.
• Maintain daily transaction records and reports; ensure documentation accuracy.
• Assist with sorting and processing recyclables as needed; communicate with yard staff.
• Maintain clean scale house and surrounding areas; provide courteous customer service.
• Work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
