Job summary

SA Recycling is seeking a Scale Operator to accurately weigh trucks entering and leaving our recycling yard and to provide courteous, reliable service to suppliers and company drivers.

You will complete weigh tickets, update logs, process payments, and assist office staff as needed in all weather conditions.

The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, good math skills, and the ability to multi-task while upholding safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong attention to detail to prevent data-entry errors.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with suppliers and coworkers.
• Excellent phone etiquette and written/verbal communication.
• Ability to work in a challenging environment with good organizational and math skills.
• Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office and ability to learn industry software.

Responsibilities

• Weigh trucks entering and leaving the yard accurately while delivering courteous customer service.
• Complete all required weigh tickets, reports, logs, and end-of-day processing.
• Test scales for accuracy and report malfunctions to management.
• Process payments and maintain records of all transactions.
• Assist suppliers with questions on pricing and materials accepted; maintain account contacts.
• Cross-train and back up other office personnel as needed; maintain punctual attendance.

Our Scale Operators provide key services that directly affect the overall success of our operations by developing and growing positive customer relations and managing all aspects of in-bound and out-bound truck-scale operations. This position will work inside and outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities Of a Scale Operator

• Responsible for the exact weighing of all trucks entering and leaving the recycling yard while providing efficient, courteous customer service to our supplies and company drivers.
• Complete all required documentation for trucks and loads entering or leaving the yard; complete all required reports; keep up-to-date logs; and sort and process weigh tickets for end-of-day processing.
• Participate in the testing of scales for accuracy and report any malfunctions or concerns to the General Manager.
• Process payments and keep exact records of all transactions.
• Help suppliers with questions on pricing and types of materials accepted and maintain account contacts to promote continued business.
• Cross train and back up other office personnel as needed.
• Punctual and regular attendance is a key requirement for this position.

Qualifications Of a Scale Operator

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong attention to detail to prevent data entry errors, or to catch and correct them.
• Ability to develop and strengthen positive working relationships with suppliers and co-workers.
• Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Ability to work in a challenging environment, good organizational and mathematical skills, basic negotiation skills, and the ability to multi-task.
• Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn industry specific software.
• Bilingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
