Job summary

Harmon Scrap Metal is seeking a dedicated Scale Clerk to be the first and last point of contact for customers and drivers at our busy yard in Athens, AL. You will weigh loads, record details, and help keep the scale window efficient and accurate.

Qualifications

• Reliable and punctual; critical to daily operations.
• Strong attention to detail to avoid costly mistakes.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, sometimes hectic environment.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn scale software.
• Good communication with drivers, customers, and yard staff.
• Scale house, trucking, or scrap yard experience is a plus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Weigh inbound and outbound loads using the scale system.
• Enter customer info, material types, and weights into the system.
• Print and process scale tickets and receipts.
• Direct drivers and keep traffic moving safely.
• Communicate with yard operators and office staff.
• Answer phones and assist customers at the scale window.
• Handle cash or payments and balance transactions when needed.
• Keep paperwork organized and up to date.
• Monitor for discrepancies and report issues.
