Job summary

Steel Technologies LLC is seeking a 2nd shift Scale Operator to tag finished goods, weigh and record data, and ensure proper packaging for shipment. You will monitor scale flow, entry into the AS 400 system, and accuracy of tags against sales orders.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, accurate documentation, and smooth material flow to production and shipping. Training and safety procedures are provided as part of our manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least 1 year of industrial or manufacturing experience.
• Follow order instructions and complete documentation.
• Proficient with basic computer skills and AS 400 data entry.
• Use tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
• Able to lift and move up to 75 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Instruct pack-line on proper packing instructions according to sales order.
• Instruct flow of packaged material to scales and weigh packages.
• Inspect packages for material, size, identification, packaging, and weight.
• Weigh packages and enter data into AS 400 system; generate tags and documents.
• Compare tags to sales orders to ensure accuracy and complete information.
• Balance production at end of order and document production breakdown.
• Account for all material and production flow to the office on completion.
• Control flow to and from scales to storage and perform routine inventory of tagging supplies.
• Check scales daily for accuracy.

Job description

As a 2nd shift Scale Operator at Steel Technologies, you are responsible for accurately tagging finished goods that have been packaged and are ready for shipment. Strong attention to detail is imperative to this role as it is up to you to ensure finished goods are appropriately packaged, weighed, measured and recorded. You’ll be responsible for helping Steel Technologies succeed by preparing items for shipment to our customers and ensuring their expectations are met. Essentially, you play a big part in getting the finished material into the right hands at the right time, the right way.

How you’ll contribute to our company:

• Instruct and assist pack-line on proper packing instructions according to sales order
• Instruct flow of packaged material to scales
• Inspect packages to ensure proper material, size, identification, packaging, sample if required, and weight
• Weigh package and enter into AS 400 system, generate tag and document on order ensuring accuracy of entry and documentation
• Compare tag to sales order to ensure accuracy and full information
• Balance production at end of order
• Document and breakdown production as required
• Account for all material and production flow to office at completion
• Control flow to and from scales to storage
• Perform routine inventory of tagging and packaging supplies
• Check scales daily for accuracy

Here’s what is needed to be successful:

• A high school diploma or GED with at least one year of industrial or manufacturing experience is preferred
• Ability to follow all order instructions and complete documentation
• Proficiency in basic computer skills, ability to accurately track and input data in AS 400 system
• Ability to use tape measures, micrometers, and calipers
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
