Job summary

The Seminole County Government in Florida is seeking a Scale Operator for the Environmental Services Solid Waste Management division. This role operates the truck scales at the Central Transfer Station or Landfill, opening and closing, and ensuring proper charging and receipts.

Daily duties include inspecting loads, recording transactions in the Scale Management System and HHW database, maintaining accurate fee controls, and balancing records.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school/GED and one year cashier/customer service experience is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Must have experience with general computer operation.

Summary

Daily operation of truck scales at the Central Transfer Station or Landfill which includes opening and closing. Examines incoming waste loads to assure material meets Division requirements. Assures all transactions are properly recorded in the Scale Management System and HHW database. Determines proper charges, collects fees, charges proper accounts and issues receipts. Maintains accurate control of fees/monies and ensures records are balanced and reconciled daily.

Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

Additional compensation based on licensure.

  • Provides customer service as cashier and must communicate well with the public. Manages cash and credit transactions at the facilities.
  • Performs daily maintenance duties around assigned work areas.
  • Directs customers to designated areas based on type of waste. Instructs customers on proper procedures for entering and departing scale platforms and maintains orderly flow of traffic.
  • Must understand and follow written and oral instructions to provide Solid Waste customer service, verify compliance with Franchises, and maintain requisite records.
  • Updates Waste Works vehicle assignments based on information provided by office staff.
  • Provides accurate and timely information to coworkers and customers
  • Manages supply inventory, keeps records and submits reports.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Qualifications
  • Completion of high school/GED and one (1) year cashier/customer service experience is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Must have experience with general computer operation.
