Gerdau in Petersburg, VA is seeking a dependable Scale House Logistics Clerk to be the first point of contact for truck drivers and to help keep shipments, inventory, and operations running smoothly. You will weigh trucks, process shipping documentation, enter data, and communicate with drivers and teams in a fast-paced industrial setting.

This role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and organized administration, with opportunities to contribute to month-end reporting and proactive inventory control

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, warehousing, or admin support preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use Excel for data-entry.

Responsibilities

• Weigh inbound/outbound trucks, trailers, and railcars with scale systems.
• Process shipping documents, bills of lading, and scale tickets.
• Enter data and maintain shipment and inventory records.
• Communicate with drivers, operations staff and other departments.
• Answer phones and assist drivers with questions and directions.
• Monitor PPE and safety requirements for site operations.
• Support inventory tracking and operational reporting.
• Maintain an organized scale house environment.
• Assist with month-end reporting and admin tasks.

What You'll Do

• Weigh inbound and outbound trucks, trailers, and railcars using computerized scale systems
• Process shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading and scale tickets
• Enter data accurately and maintain shipment and inventory records
• Communicate with truck drivers, operations personnel, and other departments throughout the day
• Answer phones and assist drivers with questions and directions
• Monitor site safety requirements and ensure drivers follow PPE guidelines
• Support inventory tracking and operational reporting
• Help maintain an organized, clean, and professional scale house environment
• Assist with month-end reporting and administrative tasks as needed

What We're Looking For

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, transportation, warehousing, manufacturing, customer service, dispatching, or administrative support preferred
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, drivers, and team members
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple priorities
• Ability to work safely in an industrial setting

Schedule

This position rotates between:

• Week 1: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
• Week 2: 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
• One weekend a month coverage is required and shared amongst the team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs throughout the workday
• Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment
• Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed
