TIC - The Industrial Company in Port Arthur, TX, is seeking an entry-level helper to assist skilled craftspersons with supportive duties under supervision. You will learn to read blueprints, identify tools, and help erect scaffolding and ladders on construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine scope of work and materials.
  • Identify tools required and measure, mark, and cut materials to spec.
  • Assist skilled craftsmen in erecting and dismantling scaffolding, ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways.
  • Assist with construction, reinforcement, and dismantling pre-constructed scaffolds.
  • Assist with building and constructing wooden scaffolds and auxiliary items.
  • Perform work involving rigging of equipment loads.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  • Learn to read blueprints and specification to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Learn to identify all tools required for tasks and measure, mark, and cut required wooden/metallic materials to required specifications.
  • Assist skilled craftsman to erect and disassemble scaffolding for buildings and other structures and installs ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways.
  • Assist with construction, re-enforcement, and dismantling pre-constructed scaffolds.
  • Assist with buildin and constructing wooden Scaffolds and auxiliary items.
  • Perform work involving rigging of equipment loads.
Qualifications
  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
  • Field experience in chosen craft discipline
  • Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.
Requirements
  • The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
  • Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
  • Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
  • May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
  • Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
  • May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across
  • Must have required tools
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
  • Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing
