Job summary

EDF Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking a SCADA engineer to develop studies, designs, and assessments for the company SCADA system used in electric grid monitoring, protection, and control.

You will monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain SCADA operations across the fleet while interfacing with OCC, Asset Management, and O&M teams. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2+ years of related experience; strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and minimum of two years of related experience; four years can substitute for a degree.
  • Basic knowledge of electric grid energy management systems or similar for configuring SCADA systems.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain day-to-day SCADA operations across the fleet.
  • Identify SCADA system issues and monitor system health indicators.
  • Troubleshoot, document, and report SCADA issues and fixes.
  • Design, modify, and evaluate systems to support company objectives.
  • Perform routine SCADA maintenance like updates and patches.
  • Interface with OCC, Asset Management, O&M, and other teams as needed.
  • Provide on-call support per department schedule.
  • Recommend engineering solutions to meet business needs.
  • Oversee external engineering services to complete assigned work.

Salary Range: The full pay range for this role is $84,700.00 - $141,100.00 annually, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $105,000.00 to $115,000.00 annually. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.

Scope of Job:

Develop engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company SCADA system used for electric grid monitoring, protection, and control.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, support, and maintain the day-to-day operations of the SCADA systems across the fleet.
  • Proactively identify SCADA system issues leveraging tools to monitor the health of the system.
  • Troubleshoot and fix SCADA system issues. Document and report out on these issues.
  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, processes, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
  • Perform routine maintenance of SCADA systems such as updates and patches.
  • Find areas of improvement in SCADA systems/business processes and implement the solutions.
  • Interface with various parties such as the OCC, Asset Management, O&M, etc. and respond to their requests or tickets.
  • Provide on call support per the departments on call schedule.
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
  • Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

90% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 10% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; and a minimum of two years of related experience in engineering related field. Four years of additional directly related, progressive, technical work experience can be equated to a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Basic knowledge of electric grid energy management systems or similar for the purpose of configuring and engineering SCADA systems used for electric grid monitoring, protection, and control.
  • Knowledge and application of principles in area of SCADA engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.

Preferences

  • Engineering experience specific to industrial power systems or electric utility power systems.
  • Experience with DAQ (Data Acquisition), RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) and PLC technologies.
  • Experience with DNP 3.
  • Working knowledge of energy management systems.
  • Working knowledge of data historian systems.
  • Working knowledge of Modbus and Ethernet.
  • Fundamental understanding of fiber transport and microwave/wireless system technologies.
  • Understanding of Company's business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations, and the National Electric Codes.
