Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, implement, and troubleshoot SCADA and substation automation projects. You will work across design, commissioning, and field teams to deliver robust, scalable control systems for utility clients.

The role offers hybrid work in a collaborative, employee-owned environment with mentorship from senior engineers and opportunities to grow into technical or leadership roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, EET, or related field.
• 3+ years of SCADA, automation, or power delivery experience.
• Experience with RTU configuration and substation automation projects.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of DNP3, Modbus, IEC-61850 or similar protocols.
• Familiarity with relays, HMIs, and communication networks.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and support SCADA, RTU, HMI, and automation systems for substations.
• Develop SCADA architecture, I/O lists, and system integration docs.
• Configure and troubleshoot RTUs, data concentrators, and related equipment.
• Create wiring diagrams, control schematics, and network layouts.
• Coordinate with Protection & Controls engineers to integrate relay data.
• Support DNP3, Modbus, IEC-61850, and Ethernet networks.
• Perform FAT, SAT, and commissioning support.
• Interface with clients, vendors, and project teams to define system requirements.
• Assist with equipment specs, procurement, and technical evaluations.
• Participate in site visits and field investigations.
• Ensure deliverables meet client requirements and Nexus quality expectations.
