Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance across plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
• Carry out carpentry, painting, roofing, and other upkeep tasks.
• Inspect buildings to identify corrective actions and ensure safety.
• Drive to various locations across the base to perform maintenance tasks.
• Oversee tools and inventory and document maintenance requests.
• Research and provide material quotes and execute approved purchases for maintenance supplies.
• Repair, relocate, and maintain furniture and appliances.

Overview

Job Title: General Maintenance - Journeyman - SCA Location: Washington DC

Introduction: Rivet Operations Company (“Rivet”) has an opening for a General Maintenance Journeyman to join our rapidly growing team in the Washington DC area. This position will support the Navy Shipyard in Washington DC providing building maintenance support. Rivet is an exceptional industry partner to the Department of Defense (DoD) and a leader in physical and cyber security, IT management, logistics, supply chain management, process improvement and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilities Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, routine repairs, renovations, and the removal or disposal of facility materials. Provide services across plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
• General Structural Upkeep: Execute minor facilities maintenance work including carpentry, painting (interior/exterior), plastering, roofing, welding, wall repair, decking, and exterior stairs. Repair or replace window coverings, chains, door hardware, floor tiles, and carpet tiles.
• Inspections & Safety: Perform routine building and facility inspections to identify required corrective actions. Ensure all repair and maintenance activities are performed in a safe and effective manner, utilizing proper safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Logistics & Base Operations: Drive to various locations across the military base to perform maintenance tasks. Complete inclement weather preparation and secure facilities tie-downs as needed.
• Inventory & Tracking: Oversee tools and inventory management. Utilize job tracking tools to document maintenance requests, completions, and asset conditions.
• Procurement & Budgeting: Research and provide accurate material quotes and execute approved purchases for maintenance and repair supplies.
• Appliance & Furniture Care: Repair, maintain, relocate, and handle the general upkeep of furniture systems and building appliances.

Requirements

Education / Experience / Certifications

• Experience: 5+ years of verified experience performing general labor functions or facilities maintenance.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s degree preferred).
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for compiling material quotes, job tracking, and team collaboration.
• Autonomy: Proven ability to work as a self-starter with minimal day-to-day supervision.
• Licensing: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license clear of major infractions to operate vehicles on base.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in structural trades (carpentry, painting, roofing, and welding).
• Prior hands-on maintenance and repair experience specifically within plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.

• Citizenship: Personnel performing on this effort must be U.S. citizens.
• Security Clearance: Candidates are required to successfully obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
