Job summary

National Audubon Society is seeking a Communications Associate to support Audubon’s South Carolina team. You will help raise awareness of our mission and programs across the state while educating key audiences and activating supporters through web, social, email, and other channels.

This hybrid role requires proximity to Columbia, SC, with travel and some evening/weekend work expected. You’ll collaborate with the Senior Communications Manager to develop plans, manage day-to-day communications,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, political science, environmental studies or related field.
• 1-2 years of professional experience in PR, brand mgmt, writing, editing, campaigns or advocacy preferred.
• Excellent English writing, spelling and grammar; strong online communications skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn online tools for communications.
• Experience with WordPress and social platforms; familiarity with email management systems.
• Commitment to inclusion and collaborative work environments; willing to travel and work evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Support Senior Communications Manager and SC team in developing annual communications plans.
• Lead day-to-day communications, expanding Audubon’s visibility and reach.
• Gather and craft stories for newsletters, blogs, social channels, and promotional materials.
• Produce or coordinate video and photo coverage for programs.
• Assist in securing local earned media for campaigns in SC.
• Manage media lists and build relationships with reporters.
• Support outreach and advocacy campaigns using EveryAction and Mobilize.
• Coordinate events and track channel metrics for regular reporting.
