The goal of the SBIRT (Screening, Brief intervention & Referral to Treatment) program is to increase identification and treatment of adults, ages 18 and older, who may be at-risk for substance misuse or diagnosed with a substance use disorder. The SBIRT provider will screen all adults who present to the WVU Emergency Department for treatment. This screening will include screening for alcohol, tobacco and other drug use as part of the visit, assist primary care providers, and conducting other screens, diagnosis and assessment, and treatment or referral of patients with behavioral health problems, including substance abuse and depression.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Nursing or other related health field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year experience in Human Services field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Licensed in West Virginia as an LCSW or LPC.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a Behavioral Health or Substance Abuse environment.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.   • Participate in the SBIRT training, technical assistance, and on-going consultation program.
  • Recruit participants for SBIRT screenings
  • Provide an evaluation component for the grant to interview program participants and administer the SBIRT at baseline and coordinate a follow-up interview 6 months later for positive SBIRT screen.
  • Work in close partnership with the primary care clinical teams to provide full SBIRT screening as well as other screens, diagnosis and assessment, and treatment or referral patients with behavioral health problems.
  • May conduct brief interventions or refer to internal behavioral health department or community treatment centers.
  • Conduct patient screening using standardized tools.
  • Document all aspects of the screening, diagnosis and treatment or referral in the HER.
  • Participate in professional activities such as: continuing education activities, clinical conferences, meeting with representatives of community groups.
  • Respond to crises, assess need, formulate disposition, and implement appropriate care.
  • Ensure patient respect and confidentiality at all times.
