Job summary

ThinkingAhead partners with a well-established bank to add an SBA Underwriter to its underwriting group. This fully remote role focuses on analyzing and structuring SBA 7(a) and 504 loan requests, collaborating with BDOs, closers, and credit leadership to move deals efficiently from application to approval.

You will assess business and personal financials, prepare credit memoranda, and help maintain compliance with SBA requirements while contributing to process improvements and faster turnaround

Qualifications

• 5+ years SBA credit underwriting experience.
• Knowledge of SBA 7(a) guidelines and SOP.
• Strong financial analysis including cash flow and business valuation basics.
• Excellent written communication; able to defend a credit recommendation.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite SBA 7(a) and 504 loan requests per SOP and policy.
• Analyze business and personal financials, tax returns and transcripts, credit reports, and collateral to determine repayment ability and eligibility.
• Prepare clear credit memoranda with cash flow analysis, assumptions, risk ratings, and recommended structure.
• Partner with BDOs early in the process to screen deals and structure around issues.
• Coordinate with closing and servicing teams to keep approved deals on schedule.
• Support SBA eligibility reviews and ensure compliance with SBA and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to improving underwriting processes and turnaround times.

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established bank with a national PLP SBA lending group, is adding an SBA Underwriter to its existing underwriting group. You'll analyze and structure small business credit requests, working closely with business development officers, closers, and credit leadership to move quality deals from application to approval efficiently. This is a production seat on an established team with room to grow.

What You'll Do

• Underwrite SBA 7(a) and 504 loan requests in line with SBA SOP and bank credit policy
• Analyze business and personal financials, tax returns and transcripts, credit reports, and collateral to determine repayment ability and eligibility
• Prepare clear credit memoranda with cash flow analysis, assumptions, trending, risk ratings, and recommended structure
• Partner with BDOs early in the process to screen deals, identify issues, and structure around them
• Coordinate with closing and servicing teams to keep approved deals on schedule
• Support SBA eligibility reviews and help maintain compliance with SBA and regulatory requirements
• Contribute to improving underwriting processes and turnaround times

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of SBA credit underwriting experience
• Working knowledge of SBA 7(a) guidelines and SBA SOP
• Strong financial analysis skills, including global cash flow and business valuation basics
• Excellent written communication and the ability to defend a credit recommendation
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or equivalent experience
