Supporting the Small Business organization, this role is a unique blend of change leadership, operational excellence, and portfolio oversight, ensuring smooth transitions and sustainable impact in a fast‑evolving environment. The role requires strong emotional intelligence, innovative thinking, curiosity to solve business problems, and strong influence and ability to build followership to lead transformative approaches in a complex, matrixed environment. In return, this role will give you broad exposure to all dimensions of our Small Business functions and capabilities, including a range of senior business and IT leaders to grow your network and build your personal brand. It will also give autonomy to drive new ideas, drive change and support the proactive acceleration of next‑level transformation.

Change Leadership & Transformation Mindset (50%)
  • Champions adaptability and a positive change mindset across Small Business teams, as teams evolve process, data and technology capabilities on our path to $10B by 2030.
  • Implements and supports strategies that reduce resistance and enhance adoption of new initiatives.
  • Drives leader accountability in adoption and leadership through change, acting as a transformation coach, supporting employees in navigating change.
  • Leads teams in the development and execution of change management plans, including communications, upskilling, and stakeholder engagement campaigns, to support organizational transformation goals and anchor changes.
  • Ensures technology implementations are aligned with business needs and user adoption strategies.
Invest Portfolio Planning & Management (30%)
  • Develops, improves, and maintains key Portfolio artifacts in collaboration with Finance and technology teams.
  • Drafts Invest reporting deliverables and other key portfolio artifacts including PowerPoint decks, Excel spreadsheets and visualizations.
  • Provides support and guidance to Value Stream Owners and Agile Portfolio Managers (APMs) on a regular basis.
  • Supports 3‑year roadmapping efforts in partnership with Value Streams and Lean Portfolio Management (LPM Team).
Business Benefits – Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Monitoring and Reporting (10%)
  • Actively manages and refines all aspects of the KPI reporting process in close partnership with the LPM Business Lead, Finance, and Value Stream Owners.
  • Owns Portfolio‑level KPI artifacts and monitors Portfolio KPIs against plan.
  • Liaises with Finance to drive Cost‑Benefit Analysis (CBA) refresh efforts.
Agile Portfolio Operations, Governance and Special Initiatives (10%)
  • Coordinates and manages monthly and quarterly reporting in Portfolio Syncs and Strategic Roadmap Reviews.
  • Organizes and executes working sessions with stakeholders to solicit input on key tasks, identify completion dates, risk, and issues. Follows up diligently with stakeholders. Drives resolution of open risks and issues.
  • Partners closely with the cross‑functional Lean Portfolio Management Teams to ensure adherence to exit criteria as epics move through the Kanban; supports overall health of the Portfolio Kanban. Assists with Rally support and data management.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of either P&C, project management, finance, or Agile experience is required.
  • Strong Change Management mindset and hands‑on experience with change frameworks (ADKAR, Kotter or Change Consulting) is required.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams preferred.
  • Process mapping / improvement background preferred.
  • Exposure to agile methodologies and frameworks such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, Kanban, etc. and Rally or similar agile workflow management tools preferred.
  • Consistent and outstanding attention to detail with both numbers and words (much of our team’s output goes directly to the senior leadership of the business unit and company).
  • Forward‑thinking self‑starter with the ability to understand “what the team needs to do next” and document those actions into a plan.
  • Ability to Lean In – seek to understand content, challenge & question, look for improvement opportunities, raise new ideas, build relationships and high‑trust, with a focus on adding value.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to use data to tell a story and identify the “so what.”
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and influence skills, including the ability to manage multiple stakeholders across multiple business units.
  • Self‑motivated individual with demonstrated ability to handle multiple high‑priority demands, manage expectations, and achieve objectives in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Must be highly adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity; passionate about continuous improvement and innovation.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short‑term or annual bonuses, long‑term incentives, and on‑the‑spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$98,400 - $147,600
