Job summary

Builders FirstSource, Inc. is seeking a saw operator to cut lumber per work orders, adjust saws, and maintain quality and safety standards on-site. The role requires a basic ability to read and perform simple measurements, with up to one month of related experience acceptable.

You will work with a team to ensure efficient production, stack finished lumber, and report any dull blades or safety concerns to supervision. This is a fast-paced, on-site position with exposure to moving machinery.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements: Less than high school education or up to one month related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read basic words and numbers; basic math for measuring.
• Ability to follow instructions and work with a team to complete tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operates basic saw types to cut planks, timbers, or boards per work orders.
• Reviews work orders to determine cuts to be made and adjusts saws accordingly.
• Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls; observes automatic feeding of lumber.
• Stacks cut lumber after processing and informs supervisor of dull saw blades.
• Adheres to safety procedures and performs other duties as assigned.

Purpose

Operates basic saw types such as pop-up, miter, web saws, etc. to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made.
• Adjusts saw for required cuts.
• Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls.
• Observes automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls.
• Stacks cut lumber after processing.
• Advises supervisor of dull saw blades.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
