Job summary

John A Biewer Co Inc is seeking a Sawmill General Labor associate for day shift (5:30am-5:30pm) or night shift (5:30pm-5:30am) at Winona, MS. The role supports daily sawmill production, operates round table equipment, and helps in various mill operations to ensure quality lumber output and a safe, efficient work environment.

The position requires reading/writing ability, basic math, and effective communication with coworkers and supervisors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Exposure to bark, sawdust, and fluctuating seasonal temperatures (hot, cold, humid).
• Due to exposure to noise above the permissible exposure limit (PEL), falling hazards, and sawdust, employees must wear hearing protection, a hard hat, safety glasses, safety footwear, and a high-visibility shirt/vest.

Responsibilities

• Sort, stack, band, and stage lumber according to grade and size specifications.
• Remove scrap, debris, and wood residuals or byproducts from production areas.
• Ensure clean work areas by sweeping floors, picking up broken pieces of lumber, and shoveling material.
• Monitor material flow and prevent jams or downtime.
• Use hand tools for strapping and tying lumber bundles or blocks.
• Conduct routine equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
• Ensure compliance with quality control standards.
• Support other planer or mill departments as needed.
• Respect safety procedures and policies to maintain a safe working environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
