Job description

Saw Operator / Material Preparation Technician

Location: Lamar, MO

Employment Type: Full-time

Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00am–4:00pm

Summary of the Role

The Saw Operator / Material Preparation Technician is responsible for accurately cutting, measuring, and preparing aluminum materials to support downstream fabrication and welding operations. This position requires previous industrial saw experience, strong measurement skills, and the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Accuracy is critical in this role, as incorrect measurements, angles, or material selection can result in production delays and rework throughout the fabrication and welding process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate manual and automated industrial saws to cut materials according to production specifications.
  • Measure and cut aluminum material, extrusions, tubing, and other fabricated components.
  • Accurately read tape measures, including fractions and measurements within required tolerances.
  • Identify, measure, and cut angles according to production requirements.
  • Read and interpret work orders, cut lists, shop drawings, and basic fabrication prints.
  • Verify material dimensions, lengths, profiles, and part requirements before cutting.
  • Operate manual and/or automated punch presses as needed.
  • Stage, organize, label, and distribute cut materials according to production orders.
  • Inspect completed cuts and verify dimensions against work orders and specifications.
  • Perform basic material preparation, including deburring and removing sharp edges when required.
  • Safely handle and move aluminum materials throughout the production area.
  • Follow all shop safety requirements, including machine guarding and proper PPE.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient work area.
  • Perform additional production duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Previous manual and/or automated industrial saw operation experience is required.
  • Must be proficient in accurately reading a tape measure, including fractions.
  • Ability to identify, measure, and accurately cut angles.
  • Experience cutting and processing aluminum materials, extrusions, tubing, or similar components.
  • Ability to read work orders, cut lists, shop drawings, and basic fabrication prints.
  • Experience operating manual or automated punch presses preferred.
  • Understanding of basic dimensional and quality inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial shop safety and safe material-handling practices.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy while meeting daily production requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a production team.
  • Previous experience in aluminum fabrication, manufacturing, metal processing, machining, or prefabrication/layout environments is strongly preferred.
Compensation

$20.60 per hour
