Job summary

Universal Stainless is seeking a Leveler Operator to support the Plate Department. You will operate a leveler press, load and align steel plates, and safely move materials using forklifts and overhead cranes. Ensure production safety, quality, and efficient material flow while following standard procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Additional training on the leveler press, material-handling equipment, and Plate Department processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the leveler press used in the production and processing of steel plate.
• Load, position, align, and handle steel plate and materials throughout the manufacturing process.
• Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move, position, and transport steel products and materials.
• Monitor leveler press operation and material flow to ensure production safety and efficiency.
• Perform basic adjustments to leveler equipment and process settings.
• Perform basic math and measurements related to production requirements and specs.
• Inspect steel plate for quality concerns and report issues.
• Follow work instructions and quality procedures, maintain a clean work area.
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities and work with cross-functional teams.

Position Summary

The Leveler Operator is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations in the Plate Department by operating and monitoring a leveler press used to process steel plates. The operator will safely handle steel products and materials, monitor equipment operation, perform basic adjustments as trained, and inspect material to ensure production and quality requirements are met.

This position will begin as a Utility role. Employees will receive training and gain experience until they meet the qualifications required to advance into the posted position title.

This position also requires the safe operation of forklifts and overhead cranes for material handling. Employees will receive on-the-job training and will be expected to follow established procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor the leveler press used in the production and processing of steel plate according to established procedures and production requirements.
• Load, position, align, and handle steel plate and materials throughout the manufacturing process.
• Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move, position, and transport steel products and materials as trained and authorized.
• Monitor leveler press operation and material flow to ensure production processes operate safely and efficiently.
• Perform basic adjustments to leveler equipment and process settings as trained and directed.
• Perform basic math and measurements related to production requirements, material dimensions, and processing specifications.
• Inspect steel plate throughout the production process and identify quality concerns or conditions requiring attention.
• Monitor equipment operation and communicate mechanical,material, or production concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Follow established work instructions, quality requirements, and production procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities.
• Safely operate material-handling equipment as trained and authorized.
• Work cooperatively with other operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety-Sensitive Position

THIS IS A SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION. PROPER USE OF ALL REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) IS MANDATORY.

• Employees must follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements for their assigned work area.
• Employees must be willing and able to comply with all required PPE, safety procedures, and work practices.
• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment around industrial equipment, machinery, steel plate, and other heavy materials.
• Employees will work in the Plate Department around moving equipment, heavy materials, overhead cranes, forklifts, and industrial processes.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment is required.
• Employees must be able to work extended 12-hour shifts and varying schedules as assigned.
• The position requires working in an industrial steel manufacturing environment.

Experience:

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous experience operating a leveler, press, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment preferred.
• Previous forklift or overhead crane experience preferred.
• Experience working in a steel or industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Education/Training:

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Additional training will be provided on the leveler press, material-handling equipment, and Plate Department manufacturing processes.

Schedule:

• 5:00 PM–5:00 AM
• 12-hour shifts
• 6 days Monday-Saturday
• Schedule is designed to support a 24/7, three-crew operation.
• Employees must be available to work weekends and holidays as part of the rotating schedule.
• Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
• Schedules are subject to operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
• Must be able to safely work around manufacturing equipment, machinery, steel products, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
• Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas.
