Job summary

Weyerhaeuser is seeking individuals for an apprenticeship in Operations, Manufacturing, & Construction at the USA-AL-Millport facility. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on training in sawfiling and mill operations, with a starting wage and potential for advancement.

The position is a full-time apprenticeship with an evening shift. Candidates should be prepared for pre-employment checks and to work in varying conditions, including overtime and night shifts.

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Able to learn how parts interact with each other in the machine centers and
• equipment specifications
• Able to learn how to maintain/align band mills & chipping heads, gang & all
• filing equipment
• Able to work in extreme temperatures, in dusty & noisy conditions, while wearing safety equipment
• Able to lift 2-20 lbs regularly, lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, climb steps & ladders, work from heights, work in small & restricted areas
• Able to work with other crafts (maintenance, operations, quality control)
• Must have demonstrated the ability to work safely
• Must have demonstrated the ability to work well with others
• Must have demonstrated the ability to work without close supervision
• Must have demonstrated good oral and written communication skills
• Must be willing to progress thru the outlined sawfiler program
• Must be a self-starter and highly motivated
• Must have strong analytical, communication, & problem-solving skills
• Must be willing to help out in the mill as needed
• Must be willing to help with sawmill team breaks as needed
• Be able to learn basic benching procedures, fitting, an understanding of internal quality control & alignment procedures with knowledge of band saws & circle saws
• Able to learn how much machine centers impact & interface with one another in the lumber manufacturing process
• Must be able to learn & understand basic computer operation
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed Knowledge to use precise measuring equipment, i.e. micrometers & dial indicators
• Basic computer skills a plus
• Resume detailing education and work history, is preferred
• Requires a strong ability to team with others in implementing process changes in a rapid-changing work environment to ensure maximum quality lumber production
• Post Application Requirements: Successful completion of pre-employment computer based testing
• Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen
