Saturday Supervisor (Per Diem)

New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award‑winning not‑for‑profit agency dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, chronic illnesses, and disabilities throughout the five boroughs. NAC is currently seeking a Saturday Supervisor to join its Family Support Program.

• Pay Rate: $35.00 per hour
• Department: Family Support
• Hours: Saturdays 8:30 am‑4 pm
• Location: 825 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Address urgent or emergency situations and contact supervisory staff as needed; document all incidents—including those involving EMS and police—and disseminate written reports according to agency guidelines.
• Confirm the appropriateness of staff assignments for family visits; ensure room assignments are in place and coordinate staffing for training, groups, and recreation events.
• Compile information from social workers and other staff via the "Family Visit Coverage" and "Child Care Summary" forms; provide Metro Cards for families when required.
• Introduce covering staff to families and clarify visit structure (supervised, unsupervised, monitored) and expectations.
• Provide coverage if other staff are unavailable or a visit runs late/off schedule.
• Receive and respond to incoming calls during Saturday business hours, including on-call calls for Foster Care & Prevention; direct calls to the appropriate on‑call social worker when necessary.
• Unlock and lock the office and disarm and arm the alarm as needed.
• Assist with body checks of children in the medical clinic as required.
• Assist covering staff, groups, and trainers with access to needed items (tables, easels, TV/DVD, games, snacks, clothing).
• Resolve or refer transportation‑related issues as needed.
• Contact building staff and NAC administrators to address safety/security or building issues (e.g., leaking toilets, lock problems) and act as Saturday fire warden.
• Debrief and conduct follow‑up with staff; document attendance at visits on the Saturday schedule grid and email grids to associated staff.

Requirements

• Significant practical experience and training in intervening during crisis situations.
• Familiarity with child welfare involving families.
• Knowledge of issues related to family visitation.
• Strong organizational and management skills.
• Experience working with individuals in child welfare preferred.
• Master's degree required (MSW with supervisory‑level experience preferred).
