Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago seeks a Data Analyst I or II to support hospital discharge data processing across states and harmonize files into a uniform format. You’ll import, clean, transform, validate, and document data, collaborating with researchers and data scientists to produce analyses and visuals.

Proficiency in SAS is required; experience with R or Python is welcome but not essential. The role is hybrid, based in Chicago or DC with in-office days monthly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in quantitative social sciences, public health, statistics, biostatistics, health informatics, math, data science, or computer science, or related field.
• Proficiency with data management and data processing.
• 0-2 years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility, preferably with large data sets and statistical/analytic programming.
• Strong foundation in statistics, mathematics, and data science.
• Proficient SAS programming, including SAS macros.
• R or Python experience welcome but not required.
• Prior work with healthcare or administrative claims data preferred.
• Strong problem solving and quantitative analysis skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication abilities.
• MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with researchers, statisticians, data scientists, technology experts, and subject matter experts to implement and improve data management, processing, and analysis activities.
• Develop programs and scripts for data cleaning, integration, transformation, and harmonization, plus data quality checks and validation.
• Support and enhance applications and databases built for research needs and produce data documentation and dictionaries.
• Contribute to reports and presentations with basic analytic summaries, tables, and graphics.
• Apply AI tools to improve efficiency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
