Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior SAP TM & WM Analyst to support a system conversion and transportation transformation programme, transitioning transportation processes currently managed through SAP Shipment functionality in SAP ECC to SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) within the target SAP S/4HANA landscape.

The successful candidate will provide functional expertise across SAP TM, SAP WM, Stock Room Management and Logistics Execution, supporting solution design, configuration, integration, testing, deployment and post-go-live stabilisation.

The role will involve assessing existing ECC transportation processes, defining the target-state solution, configuring SAP TM for transportation planning, execution and freight settlement, and ensuring seamless integration with SAP SD, MM, Logistics Execution, Finance and relevant warehouse processes.

SAP Warehouse Management and Stock Room Management experience is essential. SAP EWM experience alone will not meet the warehouse management requirement.

Project Objectives

• Replace legacy SAP ECC Shipment functionality with SAP TM to support transportation planning, execution and freight settlement.


• Design and implement an integrated transportation solution within the target SAP S/4HANA environment.


• Ensure seamless integration between SAP TM, SAP WM/Stock Room Management, Logistics Execution and relevant SAP application modules.


• Align transportation master data, freight order management, planning strategies and charge calculation structures with SAP TM best practices.


• Assess existing custom developments, interfaces and business processes, identifying opportunities for standardisation and simplification.


• Support data migration, testing, cutover and deployment while minimising disruption to business-critical logistics operations.


• Facilitate the controlled decommissioning of legacy ECC shipment processes following successful implementation and business validation.

Scope of Responsibilities

Project Planning and Current-State Assessment

• Review existing SAP ECC Shipment configuration, transportation processes, custom developments and interfaces.


• Document current-state business processes, system dependencies and integration touchpoints.


• Assess gaps between existing ECC Shipment functionality and the target SAP TM solution.


• Identify process changes, functional dependencies, risks and opportunities for standard SAP functionality.


• Contribute to project planning, workstream estimates, delivery timelines and implementation activities.


• Engage with business stakeholders, solution architects, developers and technical teams to establish functional requirements.

Solution Design and SAP TM Configuration

• Participate in blueprinting, requirements-gathering and solution design workshops.


• Design and configure SAP TM processes covering transportation planning, execution and freight settlement.


• Define and maintain transportation master data, including locations, business partners, transportation lanes, resources and relevant planning data.


• Design freight unit building, freight order creation, transportation planning strategies and planning profiles as applicable to the solution.


• Configure freight order management, carrier allocation, tendering and execution processes where required.


• Support freight agreement configuration, charge calculation, rate determination and settlement processes.


• Define mappings between legacy shipment documents and target TM objects, including freight units and freight orders.


• Ensure the solution aligns with business requirements, SAP standards and the target S/4HANA architecture.

SAP WM, Stock Room Management and Logistics Execution

• Provide strong functional expertise in SAP WM configuration, design and operational processes.


• Support warehouse and stock room process integration with transportation planning and execution.


• Analyse and validate goods issue, goods receipt, delivery processing, stock movements and related logistics execution activities.


• Assess dependencies between warehouse operations, outbound and inbound deliveries, transportation planning and shipment execution.


• Ensure relevant warehouse and logistics data is available and consistent across integrated SAP processes.


• Support the resolution of integration issues affecting warehouse operations, delivery processing and transportation execution.


• Validate end-to-end logistics scenarios across SAP TM, SAP WM/Stock Room Management and associated SAP modules.

Scope clarification:

SAP WM and Stock Room Management are required. SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) is outside the scope of this role.

Technical Development and System Integration

• Work with SAP technical teams to define functional requirements for enhancements, BAdIs, user exits and other custom developments where necessary.


• Design, document and validate interfaces between SAP TM and the wider SAP landscape.


• Support integration using relevant technologies, including IDocs, APIs, web services and SAP Cloud Integration (CPI), where applicable.


• Define functional mapping specifications, interface requirements, error-handling procedures and reconciliation controls.


• Support data extraction, transformation, cleansing, mapping and migration activities from legacy ECC shipment processes to the target solution.


• Analyse integration failures and coordinate defect resolution with ABAP developers, integration specialists and relevant functional teams.


• Ensure technical developments meet functional requirements and comply with agreed solution design standards.

Testing and Business Validation

• Prepare and execute functional unit test scripts and integration test scenarios.


• Support system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT) and regression testing.


• Validate end-to-end transportation processes, including delivery integration, freight unit creation, planning, freight order execution, transportation charges and freight settlement.


• Test relevant warehouse and logistics execution scenarios to confirm that transportation changes do not disrupt existing operational processes.


• Record, investigate and resolve functional defects in collaboration with business and technical teams.


• Maintain test evidence, defect logs, traceability and formal sign-off documentation.


• Support business users during testing cycles and coordinate retesting following defect resolution.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

• Develop functional documentation, process flows, configuration records and operating procedures.


• Deliver training and knowledge-transfer sessions to key users, business stakeholders and internal support teams.


• Explain changes to transportation planning, shipment execution, freight settlement and warehouse integration processes.


• Support the preparation of user guides, troubleshooting materials and operational support documentation.


• Ensure the internal support organisation is equipped to maintain and support the solution following deployment.

Cutover, Go-Live and Hypercare

• Support cutover planning, mock conversions, deployment rehearsals and go-live readiness assessments.


• Validate migration completeness, master data readiness, interface availability and operational dependencies.


• Assist with cutover execution, production validation and business continuity planning.


• Provide post-go-live support, incident analysis and functional defect resolution during hypercare.


• Monitor end-to-end transportation and warehouse processes to ensure operational stability.


• Support the controlled retirement of legacy ECC Shipment processes after successful transition, reconciliation and business sign-off.


• Prepare handover documentation and transition activities for the business-as-usual support team.

Essential Skills and Experience

Candidates must demonstrate the following:

• Proven experience as a Senior SAP TM Consultant, SAP TM Functional Analyst or equivalent role on SAP TM implementation projects.


• Strong hands-on experience with SAP Transportation Management, including transportation planning, freight order management, execution and freight settlement.


• Strong SAP WM design and configuration experience.


• Practical experience with SAP Stock Room Management and Logistics Execution processes.


• Experience integrating SAP TM with SAP SD, MM, deliveries and relevant Finance processes.


• Experience assessing and transitioning legacy SAP ECC Shipment processes to SAP TM.


• Understanding of transportation master data, freight unit building, freight order creation, planning profiles, freight agreements and charge calculation.


• Experience with SAP integration technologies, such as IDocs, APIs, web services and SAP CPI, as relevant to the project landscape.


• Experience supporting data migration, functional specifications, SIT, UAT, cutover and hypercare.


• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation and stakeholder-management skills.


• Ability to work effectively with business users, functional consultants, technical developers, architects and project delivery teams.

Desirable Skills and Experience
