Job description

JOB SUMMARY: Utility 1 workers are responsible for several bakery manufacturing activities. Candidates must be willing and able to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment, communicate effectively in a team setting, and be flexible in assignments within the utility category. They must follow written and verbal instructions, safely and accurately complete assigned duties, maintain GMP standards, and participate as part of the Food Defense Team. As a Sanitor the candidate is responsible for product safety and cleaning of windows, ceilings, restrooms, break room, wash racks, cleaning equipment, lights, mixers, ovens, pans, etc., throughout the plant, and may also clean processing and non‑processing equipment on the grounds.

This is a 2nd shift full‑time PM position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Clean floors, lights, walls, windows, ceilings, restrooms, break rooms, wash racks, and equipment in various areas of the plant.
  • Spot various areas within the plant.
  • Communicate with production staff regarding problems and cleaning frequency.
  • Clean processing and non‑processing equipment; perform snow removal, weed removal, tree trimming, and police grounds as necessary.
  • Dismantle machinery.
  • Discard waste and/or trash.
  • Resolve insect problems.
  • May perform other duties not listed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Preference for previous safety training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Although the physical requirements vary each day, the employee must be able to sit 5%, stand 40%, walk 10%, kneel/squat 20%, and bend 25% of a 12‑hour shift. The role involves lifting up to 50 pounds approximately four times per day from floor to waist; reaching from 10 inches for about two hours per day and up to 60 inches for about one hour per day; climbing stairs about eight times per day, ladders 1–2 times per day, and crawling 3–4 times per week. Repetitive motions with hands and arms occur for about one hour per day and back twisting for about one hour per day. The employee must be able to push or pull the upper body 5–6 times per day and the whole body 4–5 times per day. The position may require pushing and pulling trash carts weighing 500 lb, dough carts weighing 800 lb, portable equipment, and catch pans weighing 500 lb. The employee may walk on unprotected heights, catwalks, etc., occasionally every week and must not have a fear of heights. Good physical condition is required.

MACHINES/TOOLS USED
  • Putty knife, buckets, rags, paper knife, broom, mop, dollies, hair net, hearing protection, safety glasses, and bump caps.
  • Regular use of the company’s timeskipping system and limited use of a calculator, computer, and process control sheets may be required.
