About the Role

The Sanitation Technician I performs routine manual work in the collection of garbage, trash, and yard waste within the Sanitation Section of the Public Works Division. Working as part of a collection crew, this position helps collect residential and commercial refuse, removes loose debris, and assists with maintaining sanitation vehicles and equipment.

This is a physically demanding position that requires the ability to perform heavy manual work continuously over extended periods and in varying weather conditions. Employees are expected to work safely, support their coworkers, and follow applicable OSHA standards, including those related to bloodborne pathogens.

• Works as a member of a trash, yard waste, or garbage collection crew to load trash, debris, and junked furniture and appliances from roadsides.
• Cleans areas around cans and picks up loose trash.
• Assists with dumping solid waste at the transfer site or landfill.
• Assists with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools.
• Watches out for the safety of coworkers.
• May operate non-CDL-required vehicles as needed.
• Performs related duties as required.

Special Requirement

• Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
