Country Fresh in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Sanitation Supervisor to lead the sanitation team, ensuring compliance with OSHA and food safety standards while driving efficiency and improvements.

You will report to the Quality Assurance Manager and collaborate cross-functionally with operations, QA, and suppliers to sustain high sanitation standards and safe, compliant processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in food science or related field.
  • 2–5 years sanitation or related experience with leadership.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and chemical concentrations.
  • Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and facilities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, direct, and monitor sanitation team performance.
  • Train staff on GMPs, SSOPs, and related policies.
  • Maintain sanitation programs and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Coordinate with other supervisors to resolve sanitation issues.
  • Audit CIP/SSOP processes for compliance.
  • Recommend sanitation improvements and monitor KPIs.
  • Manage vendor relationships and chemical suppliers.
  • Collaborate with DFA ops, QA&C, and suppliers to improve programs.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow DFA GMPs and corporate sanitation requirements.

Overview

We are hiring a Sanitation Supervisor to join our Country Fresh team in Grand Rapids, MI. In this role, you will lead sanitation operations to ensure compliance with company standards, OSHA regulations, and food safety requirements. You’ll oversee a dedicated team, drive efficiency, and support quality assurance through coaching, mentoring, and continuous improvement. This position reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Shift: 3 rd , Sunday - Thursday

Responsibilities
  • Schedule, assign and monitor work, and provide clear direction to the sanitation team to meet the needs of the business. Ensure effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action, and performance management.
  • Train and instruct employees regarding sanitation standards, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and objectives. Oversee instruction, implementation, and enforcement of policies as they relate to employees.
  • Implement and maintain sanitation programs and ensure compliance with company standards and directives.
  • Collaborate with other supervisors to coordinate activities to identify, solve, and prevent problems affecting sanitation.
  • Conduct audits of sanitation and clean-in-place (CIP) processes to ensure compliance with SSOPs.
  • Recommend measures to continuously improve sanitation methods, equipment performance, and quality of products produced and distributed by the facility.
  • Validate SSOPs annually or when systems are modified.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors (e.g., chemical supplier).
  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with DFA operations, QA&C and chemical supply vendors to develop, implement, and continuously improve sanitation programs, policies, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues.
  • Follow all DFA GMPs and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in food science or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
  • 2 to 5 years sanitation or related experience coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes or team leadership experience; supervisor experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand technical documents, dilutions, percentages, and basic mathematical formulas for chemical concentrations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with facilities, regulatory agencies, and customers.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment.
