Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI, is hiring a Sanitation Supervisor to lead sanitation operations, ensure compliance with GMPs and regulatory requirements, and support QA through coaching and continuous improvement.

You will manage a team, drive efficiency, and work cross-functionally with DFA operations, QA&C, and vendors to enhance sanitation programs and KPI achievement. Reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in food science or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
• 2–5 years sanitation or related experience with leadership attributes; supervisor experience preferred.
• Ability to read technical documents, dilutions, percentages, and basic chemical concentration math.
• Ability to work collaboratively with facilities, regulatory agencies, and customers.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Certification and/or License may be required during employment.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, assign and monitor sanitation team work and provide clear direction.
• Train employees on sanitation standards, GMPs, SSOPs and related policies.
• Implement and maintain sanitation programs and ensure compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with other supervisors to coordinate sanitation activities.
• Audit sanitation and CIP processes for SSOP compliance.
• Recommend improvements to sanitation methods, equipment, and product quality.
• Validate SSOPs annually or when systems change.
• Manage relationships with outside vendors (e.g., chemical suppliers).
• Work cross-functionally with DFA operations, QA&C and vendors to improve sanitation programs and KPIs.
• Maintain safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Follow DFA GMPs and regulatory requirements.

Job description

We are hiring a Sanitation Supervisor to join our Country Fresh team in Grand Rapids, MI. In this role, you will lead sanitation operations to ensure compliance with company standards, OSHA regulations, and food safety requirements. You’ll oversee a dedicated team, drive efficiency, and support quality assurance through coaching, mentoring, and continuous improvement. This position reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Shift: 3 rd , Sunday - Thursday

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Schedule, assign and monitor work, and provide clear direction to the sanitation team to meet the needs of the business. Ensure effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action, and performance management.
• Train and instruct employees regarding sanitation standards, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and objectives. Oversee instruction, implementation, and enforcement of policies as they relate to employees.
• Implement and maintain sanitation programs and ensure compliance with company standards and directives.
• Collaborate with other supervisors to coordinate activities to identify, solve, and prevent problems affecting sanitation.
• Conduct audits of sanitation and clean-in-place (CIP) processes to ensure compliance with SSOP’s.
• Recommend measures to continuously improve sanitation methods, equipment performance, and quality of products produced and distributed by the facility.
• Validate SSOP’s annually or when systems are modified.
• Manage relationships with outside vendors (e.g., chemical supplier).
• Working cross functionally and collaboratively with DFA operations, QA&C and chemical supply vendors, develop, implement, and continuously improve on sanitation programs, policies, and key performance indicators (KPI’s).
• Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues.
• Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in food science or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
• 2 to 5 years sanitation or related experience coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes or team leadership experience; supervisor experience preferred.
• Ability to understand technical documents, dilutions, percentages, and basic mathematical formulas for chemical concentrations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with facilities, regulatory agencies, and customers.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment.
