Job summary

City of Cheyenne seeks a Sanitation Mechanic Foreman to lead and perform complex mechanical repairs on a city fleet, including gasoline and diesel vehicles and sanitation equipment. You will plan and direct maintenance, supervise staff, and ensure safety standards while troubleshooting failures and performing engine tune-ups.

Three years of supervisory automotive/mechanical experience are required, plus a CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of automotive/equipment mechanical experience with three years in supervisory responsibility.
• CDL license within six (6) months of hire (may be extended based on LCCC program vacancy)
• Wear steel toe boots and city supplied uniforms

Responsibilities

• Lead, plan, train, and review the work of staff responsible for mechanical repairs to city vehicles and equipment.
• Plan, direct, and participate in complex mechanical maintenance and repair activities.
• Supervise the use of equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Train staff in mechanical work methods and use of equipment.
• Verify work for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
• Lead and participate in repair of defects in city vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose problems and determine causes; recommend solutions.
• Perform engine tune-ups and overhaul activities for gasoline and diesel engines.
• Independently perform the most difficult maintenance work on gasoline/diesel equipment.
• Replace worn parts; adjust brakes/steering, transmissions, cooling, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and drive-train systems; diagnose electrical components.
• Diagnose problems and repair automotive, construction, electrical, hydraulic, air-conditioning, and other mechanical equipment.
• Perform inspections and repairs to Sanitation fuel site and manage storage tank program A license.
• Assist in shop maintenance and cleaning; be available for emergency contact; lead and review staff work; change/repair tires and perform safety inspections; inspect and diagnose defects; fuel, grease, and lubricate City vehicles; perform welding and fabrication; estimate time/materials; manage inventory; run Preventive Maintenance tasks.
