Job summary

The City of Pasadena is hiring a Municipal Garbage Collector to gather and carry bags from yards and locations along the route, hoist refuse bins, dump bags into the truck, and assist with recycling duties. You may also unload at the dump site and help operate the pickup equipment as needed.

There are no education or experience requirements listed; you must be able to work outside in any weather, repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, and obtain all necessary licenses.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather; must be able to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, often while running or jogging; Must possess the visual ability to avoid obstacles and to identify hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities

• Gathers and carries garbage bags from individual yards or locations along route and throws bags onto truck.
• Starts hoisting device that rises refuse bin attached to rear of truck.
• Dumps bags into opening in enclosed truck body.
• May gather separated recycling materials and dump them into recycling bins on garbage truck.
• Assist in unloading and cleaning garbage truck at dump site.
• May pick up loose trash with forks, shovel, or by hand and load into truck.
• May assist in operation of picker.
• May deliver garbage bags to individual houses by unloading bags from truck and carrying them to front yard.
