Job summary

Gantri is seeking a detail-oriented Sander for the Finishing Department in San Leandro, CA. You will prepare 3D printed lighting products for final coating by sanding, refining surfaces, and ensuring quality finishes.

The role emphasizes hands-on craftsmanship in a modern manufacturing setting, with regular Wednesday–Sunday shifts, on-site work, and full-time employment. Training is provided to build foundational skills and ensure safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in woodworking, automotive body repair, or paint finishing is a plus.
• Basic English sufficient to understand safety instructions and communicate essential information.

Responsibilities

Our production team works across printing, finishing, assembly, quality control, and packing to deliver high-quality, customer-ready products.

The Finishing Department plays a critical role in ensuring our products meet both functional and aesthetic standards through sanding, coating, and surface preparation processes.

Your Role

As a Sander in the Finishing Department, you will be responsible for preparing 3D printed lighting products for final coating and assembly by sanding and refining surfaces to meet Gantri’s quality standards. You will work with various sanding tools and equipment and may support other production functions as needed.

This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, hands-on, and interested in developing craftsmanship in a modern manufacturing environment.

Shift and Schedule

Regular schedule: Wednesday–Sunday, 2:30pm–10:00pm

Training schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm, for the initial training period.

Mandatory overtime may be required to support production needs, staff shortages, or unexpected increases in workload.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate sanding equipment (e.g., orbital sanders) to smooth and finish product surfaces
• Follow work instructions and quality standards to achieve desired finishes
• Inspect parts for defects and perform rework as needed
• Prepare products after printing and primer application for final finishing stages
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the work area
• Track and maintain inventory within internal systems
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot sanding or finishing issues
• Support cross-functional work across Print, QC, and Assembly as needed
• Follow all safety protocols and production guidelines

Experience & Background

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• No prior experience required for P1 (entry level); training provided
• Experience in woodworking, automotive body repair, or paint finishing is a plus
• Basic English skills sufficient to understand safety instructions, follow directions, and communicate essential information

Physical Requirements

• Comfortable performing repetitive, hands-on work throughout an 8+ hour shift
• Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours)
• Ability to lift and move materials as needed
• Ability to bend, reach, and move throughout the shift

Personal Protective Equipment (Environmental Health & Safety)

• Required to wear eye protection
• Required to wear Tyvek coveralls over clothing
• Required to wear a face mask/respirator (including Fit Testing) for 8+ hours
• Required to pass a company-sponsored physical examination

$24 - $24 an hour

Note: A $2/hour premium is provided upon certification in sanding. Swing-shift employees receive an additional 10% differential calculated on the $20 base rate.

$20.00/hr base pay

• $2.00 sanding differential

• $2.00 swing-shift differential (10% of the $20 base)

= $24.00/hr total
