Job summary

Anthropic in San Francisco is seeking a hands-on engineer for the Sandboxing team to design, build, and operate isolation infrastructure that runs untrusted model-generated code and agent workloads at scale.

You will optimize startup time, density, and throughput, strengthen cross-cutting isolation, and partner with security, research, and product teams to deliver fast, safe sandboxes for Claude products. This role requires deep systems programming and a collaborative mindset.

Qualifications

• Experience in Linux kernel development or low-level systems work.
• Proficiency in Rust, C, C++, or Go.
• Familiarity with virtualization/container isolation tech (KVM, QEMU, Firecracker, gVisor, runc).
• Understanding of Linux resource management (namespaces, cgroups, scheduling, memory).
• Experience profiling and debugging system-level performance.
• Ability to work in unfamiliar codebases and deliver practical solutions.
• Strong communication and commitment to safe, reliable systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate the sandboxing infrastructure for untrusted code and agent workloads at scale.
• Improve sandbox startup time, density, and throughput including snapshot/restore.
• Strengthen isolation across compute, filesystem, and network with per-session credentials.
• Investigate and fix performance, reliability, and security issues at the kernel, hypervisor, and container level.
• Build monitoring, tracing, and debugging tools to show resource usage inside a sandbox.
• Collaborate with researchers to support reinforcement learning environments with isolated execution.
• Expose sandboxes as a dependable capability for Claude products and customers.
• Work with security to threat-model the platform and test/harden against abuse scenarios.
• Coordinate with cloud providers on hardware/platform features for workloads.
• Share knowledge on systems programming and Linux internals; set technical standards.
