Job summary

Orion Castings, located in Chelmsford, MA, is seeking a Sandblaster to join our manufacturing team. No prior experience required—we provide on-the-job training to build hands-on skills in productivity, quality control, and precision machining as they happen on the shop floor.

You will operate abrasive blasting equipment to remove paint and contaminants, control pressure and direction of the blast, and help maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous sandblasting experience or training helps.
• Experience with heavy metals is a plus.
• Must have physical stamina and able to handle light to heavy lifting.
• Flexible schedule is needed.
• Familiarity with power tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by masking areas and protecting work surfaces.
• Set up equipment, lift and place heavy parts onto racks or into cabinets.
• Assist with shop operations, including prepping parts for paint and cleaning components.
• Maintain and clean sandblasting equipment and keep the work area orderly to ensure safety.

Compensation & Schedule

• Base Compensation Range: $17.00 - $25.00 / hour

• Schedule: Frist Shift | 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM | Monday to Friday

Job Summary

The sandblaster uses abrasive blasting equipment to remove paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt. The sandblaster’s control of the pressure and direction of the abrasive material is vital for preventing surface damage and injury to coworkers. The sandblaster is responsible for shoveling or pouring sand, grit, or other abrasive material into the machine, and monitoring and maintaining an adequate supply of the abrasive in the hopper.

• Prepare Surfaces - Before the abrading action, the sandblaster protects specific areas of the work surface using masking film, tape, and rubber.
• Set Up Equipment - Sandblasters are responsible for lifting, carrying, and setting up heavy equipment and parts onto racks, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
• Shop Operations - Preparing parts for the paint shop, steam cleaning motors and chassis, and other general labor may be included in the sandblaster’s job duties.
• Maintain Equipment and Work Area - An important part of the sandblaster’s job is the maintenance of the sandblasting equipment, such as cleaning and changing nozzles. To prevent accidents, it is essential that the sandblaster’s work area is clean and orderly, and that any unsafe working conditions are corrected or reported immediately.
