Job summary

FLSmidth in Charleston, West Virginia is seeking a Blaster to support surface preparation and blasting operations within our heavy industry environment. You will organize blasting equipment, maintain readiness, and ensure adherence to safety protocols in daily tasks.

The ideal candidate has limited experience, can follow written or verbal instructions, and is comfortable working with exposure to loud conditions, moving parts, and heights.

Qualifications

• Limited experience in blasting or related work.
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards (fire hazards, gases, electrical, chemical devices).
• Computer skills: time-tracking and data entry.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• Exposure to electrical shock and vibration.
• Exposure to high places, fumes and outside weather.
• Very loud noise level in work environment.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and plans blasting equipment and materials for projects.
• Ensures blasting equipment is maintained and operable.
• Abrades surfaces to remove rust, paint, grease, and debris for specified finish.
• Examines finished surfaces to ensure conformance to specs.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area to support manufacturing.
• Willing to cross-train and perform related tasks as needed.

Your responsibilities

• Organizes and plans the use of blasting equipment and materials for the various projects
• Ensures that the blasting equipment is properly maintained and in a ready state of operation
• Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish using abrasive-blasting equipment
• Examines and measures finished surfaces to ensure conformance to specifications
• Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions
• Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position
