Job summary

FLSmidth in Keokuk, IA, is seeking a Production Supervisor for the 3rd shift in the press room. The role oversees daily operations, trains staff, and ensures safety, quality, and on-time production.

You will monitor equipment, perform SOP-guided procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires supervisory experience in manufacturing, knowledge of press operations, forklift skills, and strong communication.

PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR - 3rd Shift Press Room As a Production Supervisor - Press Room, you will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the press room, ensuring efficient production, quality control, and a safe working environment.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Supervise and train press room personnel, ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor and optimize press operations, including equipment setup, adjustments, and troubleshooting, to achieve production targets and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, including forklifts and hoisting machinery, to ensure proper functioning and address any maintenance needs.
  • Implement and enforce all safety policies and procedures within the press room, conducting safety briefings and addressing any potential hazards.
  • Manage employee performance, including coaching, feedback, and disciplinary actions, to foster a productive and positive work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, other departments, and management regarding production schedules, issues, and solutions.
  • Maintain accurate production records and reports.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance press room efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing or production environment, specifically with press operations.
  • Strong understanding of equipment operations relevant to a press room, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in forklift operations and hoisting procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety policies and procedures, with a strong commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and motivate employees.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical documents.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Read and analyze blueprints, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Manage production floor ERP transactions.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Inspect materials, products or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality or efficiency.
  • Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced members.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production processing of goods, such as machine operators, fabricators and general laborers.
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints or grievances.
  • Requisition materials and supplies.
  • Collaborate with safety team to develop and implement safety policies for general plant operations.
  • Maintain operations data such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports of production results.
  • Fill out non-conforming paperwork Review forklift inspection sheets and hoist inspection sheets, make sure they are completed.
  • Participate in employee performance appraisals to identify areas of limitation.
  • Provide coaching and guidance.
  • Program and adjust machines and equipment.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing all other duties assigned to benefit the overall goals and success of the company.
  • Know 100% of time where everyone is located in the facility.
  • Keep the team working on value added tasks at all times.
  • Maintain safety as a focus and core to the team performance; this includes being responsible for recording their safety items in Intelex.
  • Follow production/ quality processes.
  • This includes validating all production is being reviewed, inspected, and recorded.
  • Be able to take criticism without being defensive.
  • Be able to manage the team as to hold accountability.
Requirements and Skills:
  • Experience supervising employees, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manufacturing and metal fabrication.
  • Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a dynamic, changing work environment.
  • Strong leadership skills to get valuable results from direct reports.
  • High degree of accountability and awareness for Safety, Quality, & Productivity.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Completion of all other training required by management.
