Job summary

FLSmidth in Charleston, WV is seeking a Blaster to organize blasting operations, maintain equipment, and prepare surfaces to meet specifications. The role requires readiness to cross-train and support related manufacturing tasks in a heavy industry setting.

The candidate will work in an environment with safety as a top priority and will follow strict health and safety guidelines while handling abrasive blasting tasks and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

• Entry level Blaster role requiring ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
• Must have knowledge of health and safety requirements including fire hazards, gases, electrical and mechanical devices.
• Proficient with using a computer for time tracking or related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and plans the use of blasting equipment and materials for projects.
• Keeps blasting equipment maintained and ready for operation.
• Abrades metal or hard objects to remove scale, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt; imparts specified finish.
• Examines and measures finished surfaces to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Maintains a clean, organized work area to support manufacturing tasks.
• Willing to cross-train and perform other tasks as needed.

Your responsibilities

• Organizes and plans the use of blasting equipment and materials for the various projects
• Ensures that the blasting equipment is properly maintained and in a ready state of operation
• Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish using abrasive-blasting equipment
• Examines and measures finished surfaces to ensure conformance to specifications
• Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions
• Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
